Steve Alsup, MRI President/Director, Pastoral Counselor

MA, Ordained
Steve was a missionary in Panama and Costa Rica for a number of years. During his time there he was co-director of the Spanish language training center (CINCEL), taught in the Bible school, was a missionary-in-residence at Northwest University, and was the international director of Latin America Child Care. He was also a church planter in Panama and Costa Rica and is now pastoring the church he planted in Seattle.
Steve and his wife, Debbie, live in Everett, WA and are parents of two adult daughters and have five grandchildren.

Erlene Johnson, Vice President Counseling Supervision, Pastoral Counselor

Erlene and her family served in Russia for 10 years, where she taught at the MK school, spoke at women’s seminars, and worked with the language program. She and her husband Doug pastored in California for eight years before beginning missionary service. Erlene began volunteering at MRI in 2010 and joined the team full-time in 2011. She received her masters in pastoral counseling in 2018. Married in 1987, Doug and Erlene have three grown children and seven grandchildren.

Les Welk, MRI Vice President Field Development, Pastoral Counselor

MA, Ordained
Upon graduation from Northwest University in 1977, Les entered pastoral ministry where he spent his first twenty years in vocational ministry. Eighteen of those years were given in service to Shoreline Community Church in the Seattle area, a church that established a reputation for its World Missions vision and its love and care for missionaries.  Undergraduate study emphases included pastoral ministries and counseling, and Agape’ Therapy has been a preferred model in his caregiving relationships. Les earned a Master’s Degree in Christian Ministries from the Assemblies of Theological Seminary in 2009.  

In 1994 Les was elected by his peers to serve as the Assistant Superintendent of the Northwest Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God, and in 2002 became the Superintendent or Network Leader, an office he held until 2014.  During his entire tenure as a Network Leader Les served as World Missions Director, reflective of his love and passion for missions and missionaries. He married his college sweetheart, Darice, in 1975 and they have three children and six grandchildren. 

Les and Darice joined the MRI Team in 2016 and are dedicated to the work of caring for leaders so leaders can care. They travel regularly to speak in local churches, retreats, conferences and workshops, and they are avid Mariners and Seahawks fans…Go Hawks!

Melissa Arnold, Pastoral Counselor

Melissa is a youth and children's minister and a pastor's wife. She enjoys reading, traveling with her family, cross stiching, cuddling with her cat, and family movie night. Melissa and her husband Nick have one teenage daughter and have a family goal to go see all fifty states together. They reside in northern Missouri.

Mary Kay Blum, Pastoral Counselor

Mary Kay has served alongside her husband in pastoral ministry, church planting, and missions work.  She met her husband, Pete, at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK and they married in 1985. After 19 years serving as lay pastors in various areas of ministry and outreach, they launched into full-time church planting in Colorado for six years. In 2012, they moved to Issaquah, WA to serve on staff at Eastridge Church until summer 2017. In addition to church work, Pete and Mary Kay have been providing biblical training to the persecuted house church leaders in Southeast Asia for the last 7 years.  They have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. Mary Kay loves practicing hospitality, playing flute, quilting, hiking, and reading.

Jerry Jacob, Pastoral Counselor

Jerry is an ordained missionary with the Assemblies of God. He and his family have served 30 plus years in the Pacific Oceania area (Guam, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands and Fiji). Jerry pastored an English- speaking church in the Marshalls and was President of two Bible Schools, one in the Marshalls and the other in Fiji. Jerry was Area Director for Pacific Oceania from 2007 until 2017. He and his wife, Karen, were the pastors to their missionaries that were scattered throughout the Pacific. He also met with all the Assembly of God Superintendents and leadership of the 24 different nations and partnered with them in growing their churches throughout their nations. From 2017-2021 Jerry was a Missionary in Residence at Northpoint Bible College in Haverhill, MA where he taught missions classes. He was also campus pastor. Jerry and his wife Karen have three grown children and two grandchildren.

Karen Jacob, Pastoral Counselor

Karen has taught 1st grade through college during her 46 years as a teacher.  While serving in the Pacific Islands from 1986-2016 in Guam, the Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands and Fiji she taught Junior High, was faculty and Dean of Students, pastor's wife, homeschool teacher, women’s ministry trainer and conference speaker, children’s ministry advocate which included training children’s workers to partner in Kid’s Crusades, led HealthCare teams throughout the Pacific, and served as an Area Director wife for the Pacific Island missionary family and missionary children as their pastors, including hosting/planning several retreats.
From 2017-2021 Karen served as Missionary-in-Residence at Northpoint Bible College as faculty teaching missions and was also Dean of Students at Northpoint. She and her husband Jerry have 3 grown children and two grandchildren.

Dr. Jack Rozell, Consultant, Pastoral Counselor

Jack is a pastor and educator and has worked overseas. During his 22 years pastoring he founded the Neighbors Who Care lay counseling ministry. He has taught at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary and Northwest University. In 1996 the Rozells began Missionary Renewal Asia Pacific to minister to Asia Pacific missionaries. Soon thereafter requests came for care came from other regions of the world and from pastors as well. The growing number of guests and the worldwide scope prompted the founding of Ministry Resources International (MRI). Jack and his wife Adel were married in 1959; they raised two daughters and enjoyed two grandchildren. After 55 years in ministry together, Adel went home to be with the Lord on June 1, 2015.

Gary Flokstra, Adjunct Pastoral Counselor

Gary and Glenna served in the Philippines for 10 years where Gary became the Head Librarian at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary. While there a friendship developed with Jack Rozell that continues to this day. They experienced the benefits of MRI individually and as a couple and are together today because of God’s grace and the help received from individuals at MRI.
Our invitation to join MRI came in 2020, but our hearts connected decades ago! Forty-two years of marriage produced two grown children, 4 grandchildren and a house full of mementos and books.


Glenna Flokstra, Adjunct Pastoral Counselor and Mentor

Glenna resides in Springfield, MO and is Chief of Operations for the non-profit 4 The World Resource Distributors (4WRD), www.4wrd.org.  Prior to starting 4WRD, Glenna and her husband Gary were appointed missionaries for 19 years and lived in the Philippines and Belgium.
When not doing the ministry of 4WRD, Glenna and Gary enjoy hiking, walking, camping, traveling and reading.  Glenna continues to mentor women on an ongoing basis as requested and has recently agreed to help Ministries Resources International as an Adjunct Pastoral Counselor using a Zoom platform to help ministers and missionaries around the world to learn life skills for coping with the challenging issues of life.


George Beers, Adjunct Pastoral Counselor

MA, Ordained
George graduated in 1991 from the University of Valley Forge after which he, along with his wife Pam, entered pastoral ministry.  He most recently served as the Lead Pastor of the Assemblies of God church in Colville, WA from 2004 - 2019.  With over 29 years of pastoral and leadership experience, he has served in a variety of settings and positions in both New York and Washington. Having been a church-planter and the pastor of a long-established congregation, George understands the pressures placed upon ministry leaders.
In 2012-2013, he experienced a combination of emotional, physical, and spiritual issues that threatened to end his ministry.  He knows firsthand the healing that flows from the experience of God’s agape love.
In addition to serving with MRI, George and Pam travel frequently, seeking to refresh, inspire, strengthen, and encourage congregations and church leadership. He is entering the second year of Gonzaga Universities, MA in Communication and Leadership, with a specialization in Strategic and Organizational Communication.
George and Pam were married in 1988 and have two adult children. They love hiking, cooking, a delightful book, and football! Go Hawks!
 


Pam Beers, Adjunct Pastoral Counselor

Pam has served alongside her husband George in a variety of pastoral settings over the past 32 years. Their work has taken them from small town rural settings to large cities, from church planting to being involved in long-established churches, from east coast to west coast. Pam’s heart for ministry has included areas of women’s ministry, children’s ministry, prayer teams, teaching, and worship. A desire to grow in Spiritual Formation led Pam to Portland Seminary where she earned a master’s degree which specialized in Spiritual Direction. Pam’s desire is to bring this passion and learning as a new team member of MRI.

Pam and George were married in 1988 and have two adult children. She enjoys filling her empty-nest time with her husband as they explore the world around them. She secretly enjoys baseball over football but wisely understands the current culture. Go Hawks! (And Mariners!!)


Ekaterina (Kat) Koetje, Adjunct Pastoral Counselor

Kat has ministered with Teen Challenge, Church on the Ridge (women's ministry), and she and her family have served with Freedom 61 through YWAM (Youth With a Mission) in Latvia. She was born in Russia and moved to the US in 2001. Kat joined the MRI team in 2019. She lives in North Bend, WA with her husband, Tom, and their three children. Kat loves painting, traveling, and hiking.


Bonnie Karnes, Administrative Assistant, Guest Relations Coordinator

Bonnie joined the MRI team in 2018 and serves as Administrative Assistant and Guest Relations Coordinator. She has served as a legal secretary and has many years of experience leading Bible Quiz as a coach. She and her husband Jim have three grown children and live in Snohomish. She enjoys reading, especially historical and classic literature, camping, playing games, and spending time with friends and family.

Delores Steller, Bookkeeper


Delores serves as the bookkeeper for MRI. She has been part of the MRI team since 2000, serving in the Kirkland office for 13 years, more recently serving off campus. She and her husband Larry have served together for 53 years as pastors and missionaries and recently as Director of Pastoral Care in the Oregon Ministry Network. The Stellers were married in 1967 and have three married children and seven grandchildren.
